'Evolutie' was composed by bringing together separate samples from duo Rozemond&Bekkers, recorded in their living rooms. The result is a beautiful collage made from numerous audio-samples.
The work is based on the poem Evolutie
of the Dutch poet Co Woudsma.
Evolutie (Co Woudsma)
Eenmaal uit mijn cel gebroken werd ik
groter, tot ik op de juiste schaal was
Ook nu pas ik me almaar aan, word trager,
grijzer, goed gecamoufleerd. Steeds slechter zicht
heb ik op al het lelijks dat de wereld biedt.
Overtollig haar raak ik nog kwijt,
totdat ik compleet tot rust kom, ik val
dan niet meer tussen dingen op en word
langzaam met de grootse aarde een.
In vele wezens zal ik overleven.
Evolutie (Co Woudsma)
Once broken out of my cell I became
bigger, until I was on the right scale.
Even now I keep on adapting, getting slower,
grayer, well camouflaged. Worse and worse vision I have
on all the ugliness that the world offers.
Excess hair I will still lose,
until I completely unwind, then I
no more stand out between things and
slowly become one with the great earth.
In many creatures I will survive.
